A full history and examination of your affected joint will be performed, and you will be referred for any additional X-rays or scans. All referrals are triaged, and as best as possible, we will make sure you have as many of the essential investigations required prior to your appointment. After the appointment, Dr Farey will write to your General Practitioner, physiotherapist and any other specialists involved in your care.

Yes, you must have a referral from your General Practitioner, preferably forwarded to our office prior to your appointment.

Hip: osteoarthritis, dysplasia, avascular necrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, infection, fractures and revision surgery for troublesome hip replacements.

Knee: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis, fractures, infection, ACL rupture, meniscal tears, ligament injuries, kneecap (patellofemoral) instability, arthritis in young people and revision surgery for troublesome knee replacements.

This will be a decision that we make together after a full clinical assessment, discussion of the benefits and risks of surgery, as well as your treatment goals. Many people will be able to manage their osteoarthritis for years successfully with non-surgical treatment. The treatment plan will be personalised to you.

Yes. If surgery is recommended, we will provide you with the relevant item number(s) and quote of full costs. As a private practice, we charge the fee recommended by the Australian Medical Association, and this will only be partially reimbursed by your private health insurance provider. The difference between what you pay out of pocket and what your private health insurance provider reimburses you is known as a “Gap”, and varies widely between private health insurance providers. We are committed to informed financial consent, and all other specialists Dr Farey works with (for example, anaesthetists) will be held to the same standard.
